Every magnitude-4.0+ earthquake recorded by the USGS between 2020 and 2024 — tens of thousands of events. Played back, they outline the tectonic plate boundaries: the Pacific Ring of Fire, the mid-Atlantic ridge, the Alpide belt through the Himalaya.
Marker size scales with magnitude and color steps through magnitude bands, so M7+ events read large and dark red against the smaller M4s. A 30-day rolling window keeps the map legible across the five-year span.
Two sibling event catalogs are built the same way and stream from the fullscreen viewer: global hurricane tracks and a year of VIIRS wildfire detections. The same quakes also render as time-as-height columns.
